Hi! My name is Maxwell Zeff, and I’m a journalist based in San Francisco. You can call me Max.

I’m 27 years old and cover AI for the Wall Street Journal. In past lives, I’ve helped create podcasts, magazine features, radio broadcasts, TV shows, and documentaries for national news outlets. I’m the son of two journalists and I love storytelling in any form it takes.

Max has covered the rise of artificial intelligence, banking crises, and men’s mental health in sports. Here’s some of his work.

FEATURED WORK:

I spoke to more than 30 people to write this feature story for WIRED, where I used to work as a senior writer. This story came out in the spring of 2026, right as AI coding tools were going mainstream, after reporting on the space for several years. It features interviews with many of OpenAI’s executives, including Sam Altman and Greg Brockman.

Who Max has worked with.

I’d love to connect.
